Obituary: Thomas James Doerr

Thomas James Doerr, 69, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Powell Valley Healthcare of a lengthy illness following a heart attack.

A 1961 graduate of Lovell High School, Doerr attended Northwest College, the University of Wyoming, and Montana State University before taking a parks job at Big Horn Reservation. That led to a career with the U.S. National Parks Service, which he joined in 1965. During his time in the service, he served as a ranger at Grand Canyon National Park. He later joined the Fred Harvey Company, which operated a resort in Grand Canyon National Park.

Doerr retired in 1995 and relocated to Powell, Wyo. to care for his parents.

He is preceded in death by father John E. Doerr and mother Pauline K. Doerr. Survivors include his daughter, Jessica A.D. Pointer (Jack Pointer) of Winooski, Vt.; his younger brother, David Doerr (Barbara Doerr) of Pocatello, Idaho; and his younger sister, Millie Town (Barrie Town) of Monument, Colo.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Haskell Funeral Home, 605 E Main St., Lovell, WY 82431. Burial of the cremations will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lovell Cemetery.
